ABOUT
MAKAL Independent Workplace Investigations & Workers Compensation Advisory provides practical, independent support across workplace investigations, workers compensation and injury management.
Founded by Millie Ioapo, MAKAL brings 20 years of experience across government, self-insurance and private-sector environments, including complex physical and psychological claims, return to work, workplace matters and stakeholder communication.
MAKAL was created from a simple observation: workplace matters and workers compensation can become unnecessarily difficult when communication is unclear, people do not understand the process, or important information falls between the gaps.
Our approach is practical and human. We focus on understanding the circumstances, establishing the facts, communicating clearly and helping those involved understand what happens next.
For employers and organisations, MAKAL provides independent workplace investigation and workers compensation advisory support.
For injured workers, MAKAL provides practical guidance to help them better understand and navigate the workers compensation process. This is guidance and support, not legal advice.
Workplace Facts. Fair Process. Clear Outcomes.

MEET THE FOUNDER
MAKAL was founded by Millie (Mile) Ioapo, a workplace injury management and workers compensation professional with 20 years’ experience across government and private sectors.
Throughout her career, Millie has managed complex workers compensation, return to work and workplace matters involving insurers, self-insured employers, government agencies and corporate organisations across multiple jurisdictions.
Her strong interest in workplace investigations developed through exposure to psychological injury matters, conflicting evidence, stakeholder disputes and workplace issues requiring careful fact- finding and balanced decision-making.
While managing complex cases, Millie identified recurring gaps within workplace investigation processes and reports, including missing evidence, incomplete information and findings lacking sufficient detail to support informed decision making. These experiences reinforced the importance of conducting investigations that are objective, procedurally fair and evidence-based.
Millie established MAKAL to provide organisations with professional workplace investigation and workers compensation advisory services focused on clear, practical and defensible outcomes.
